Hawks Rip Into the Wolverines! The Harlingen Hawks came bearing down upon the P.S.J.A. Wolverines on Tuesday, September 30th. We arrived late at ten minutes after 4 p.m., expecting the matches were already going to be under way. We found the Hawks were having a light workout with each other instead. We were informed that the Wolverines were running severely late and would not arrive until after 5 p.m. I remembered how the Wolverines were trodded on by the Harlingen Cardinals just a few days earlier (See our article "Cardinals Vs. Wolverines") and had to feel for the kids. What must it |

feel like to have to travel for so long, knowing that you are not prepared to meet the adversary you soon must enter into battle with. You probably talked about your loss, (only a few days earlier) to the other Harlingen team, with your team mates all week long. Now you sit on the bus and wait. Is your coach giving you another "Don't be too hard on yourselves" speech like he did last Saturday? If only their was a website that had free tennis lessons and that had information on where I could take lessons from a USPTA (United States Professional Tennis Association) certified instructor ( ahem...ahem...). Or maybe you have been on that website and you realize you are facing some guy named Tomas Stillman. Can he really be as good as that guy types that he is? And what about this Catherine Weber chick? Can a girl really hit the ball that hard? Is she really as tall as she looks on the website? You hate waiting.....yet you wait...and wait....and wait. The dreaded bus ride. You decide to talk about something other than tennis. What of the Harlingen Hawks? What are they saying? What are they thinking? Maybe you are one of the Harlingen Hawks tennis team members and you wonder what is taking the Wolverines so long to get to the match. You hear parts of a conversation that resounds with a "We could be having a good workout instead of waiting". You can't help but agree. If you are Tomas Stillman, you ooze confidence as your shirt expands every time you inhale. If you are Catherine Weber, you grab the nearest GUY tennis player and beg him to hit the ball at you with everything he has so that you can have a light workout before your match. If you are Catherine Weber, you notice that guy from RGVtennis.com beating one of your team mates (hey, the guy can play....ahem!) and you think, "Pfft! If he challenges me, I will explain life to him!". He does challenge you, Catherine! But, that is another story... The Wolverines arrived an hour and a half late at about 5:30 p.m. They walked up and saw Tomas Stillman hitting with Shane Kyral on the first court. Gulp! That guy from RGVtennis.com wasn't lying. The Harlingen Hawks, even after a workout that would have most of us running for the oxygen mask, quickly destroyed the PSJA Wolverines. The final score was 19 - 0 in favor of the hometown Hawks. The Hawks played agressively, violently, and methodically. We could say that Tomas Stillman, Catherine Weber, Shane Kyral, Carlos (blah, blah, blah) played with conviction, never tired, had enough energy to have a three mile run after the match was over; but we would just be repeating ourselves. The Harlingen Hawks have sent the message: "We are the Harlingen Hawks! Is their anyone among you that dares challenge?!?" Somewhere on the other Harlingen team, Daniel Bracken reads this article, crosses his arms, and begins to smile....... |
