A Stillman Summer

Coach Stillman isn't doing any interviews on how he is going to get his tennis team ready for the 2008 - 2009 season. Unlike most local tennis coaches, he took advantage of the summer break to commit himself to getting his students ready for the upcoming season.

Six days a week, Monday through Saturday, we witnessed Coach Stillman and the players from Harlingen South practicing with their coaching staff, on the tennis ball machine, running for miles and miles and skipping rope in the summer heat. As if that wasn't enough, we witnessed them doing this, not once, but TWICE A DAY!!! When asked about why he is working his team out twice a day at the Harlingen H.E.B. Tennis Center, Coach Stillman replied, "Because they are still re-surfacing the courts at the High School", without a second thought. Working out twice a day; all through the summer, to most local tennis coaches, has been described as: "unheard of", "preposterous", "absurd", "bizarre", and "insane". Yet, this is so second nature to Coach Stillman and his students; that they misunderstood the question.

His winning record speaks for itself. With returning regional qualifiers like Thomas Stillman, Catherine Weber and Sara Perez; the Harlingen Hawks tennis team is more than ready.....thanks to a Stillman summer.
